Wiltshire's white horses
I began thinking about this series early in 2014 and spent a long time planning and preparing for it by walking the hills of Wiltshire, taking photographs, getting to know the landscape and learning the story of each horse. Finding some of the horses was a real challenge, and walking to them often bracing. They are up on the high windy downs of Wiltshire, landscape often shared with sheep and cows who enjoy some of the most spectacular views in England.

The original series was a commission and I enjoyed making it so much I have decided to continue its development. The 8 new quilts on this website are from this extended series.
Each of the quilts is machine pieced and made from a mixture of hand dyed cotton fabrics and commercially printed cotton fabrics. Wax resist was used to create the names at the base of each quilt.
The quilts are variously embellished with gold and silver leaf, fabric paints, hand stitch, tiny glass beads and machine quilting.
